In the world of Diamond Hand: Legends, Diamond Magic is well known to be very powerful yet very risky and taxing. Diamond Magic has been either taboo or expressly forbidden in virtually every civilized land for most of recorded history. The cost of one’s mental state is well documented and known to everybody. Practitioners have been known to become paranoid, obsessive, and power-hungry. It’s caused people to do the worst kinds of things to the people that they were closest to.
In recent times, over the past century, some Diamond Magic has become more common. A brilliant Wizard named Palzo developed a variety of methods to experiment with Diamond Magic. He developed tools for himself that allowed him to perform heroic feats of legends. He managed to extend his own lifespan and has been a hero figure in the eyes of the masses for the better part of two hundred years. Over time skepticism about the safety of his experiments was largely forgotten and the idea that something drastic could go wrong was seen by most as crackpot conspiracy.
Palzo managed to refine a variety of Diamond Magic products that allow people to interact with different planes of existence while putting manageable amounts of stress on the user, such as orbs at the end of staves and a variety of powders used for specific feats. The longer-lived humankin, such as elves, have formed entire establishments around making use of these tools, though these areas of study are still in their infancy, with new breakthroughs being discovered regularly.
The Diamond Hand gauntlet is a device that was not brought to market. Palzo made it specifically for his own use and the public has seen him perform a variety of amazing feats, some of which are outright heroic. He saved a major city from complete devastation by redirecting massive floodwaters. He’s rescued people from collapsed buildings by lifting massive chunks of debris into the air. He’s performed feats so amazing that it’s almost impossible to exaggerate them.
After The Great Calamity, a group of adventurers now called The Diamond Hand Heroes discovered a Diamond Hand gauntlet inside of one of Palzo’s towers. Since then they’ve managed to duplicate the technology and create gauntlets for themselves. The long-term effects are unknown to them, yet the present danger facing the world around them makes the power of the Diamond Hands impossible to resist.
Some of the heroes decided to wear these gauntlets outright and have trained themselves how to use them. Others decided to interact with the gauntlets in some other way. They all decided to risk everything to protect the world they live in from ultimate destruction.
